Tiling questions, answered

Straight answers on cost, timelines, waterproofing and screens. If your question is not here, call and ask.

How much does tiling cost per square metre in Perth?

Labour for standard floor tiling in Perth generally runs $45 to $90 per square metre, wall and wet area tiling $55 to $110, and large format or natural stone $70 to $130. Waterproofing, floor levelling and tile removal are priced separately. Your fixed quote is confirmed after we measure the job.

Do you supply the tiles or do I buy them?

Either works. Most clients choose their own tiles from a Perth supplier and we lay them, which keeps selection completely open. If you would prefer, we can point you to suppliers we trust and help you calculate quantities including wastage.

How long does a bathroom retile take?

A typical Perth bathroom takes seven to twelve working days from strip out to handover. That includes tile removal, substrate repair, waterproofing with its required curing time, tiling, grouting and silicone. Rushing the waterproofing cure is the single most common cause of leaking showers.

Do you handle the waterproofing as well?

Yes. All wet area waterproofing is installed to AS 3740 and documented, so you have a record for your builder, insurer or future sale. We do not tile over waterproofing we have not inspected ourselves.

Do you supply and fit shower screens?

Yes. We measure, supply and install frameless and semi frameless shower screens. Because the same team tiles the room and fits the screen, the screen is set out against the tiles rather than worked around them, which is where most of the silicone gaps and uneven reveals come from.

Can you tile over existing tiles?

Sometimes, but it is rarely the right call in a wet area. It raises floor heights, complicates door clearances and hides any failing membrane underneath. We will assess the existing surface at the measure and tell you honestly which way to go.

What is lippage, and why does it matter on large tiles?

Lippage is when the edge of one tile sits higher than the next. On 600×1200 and larger tiles even a small amount catches the light across the whole wall or floor and is impossible to miss once you have seen it. We use tile levelling systems and back butter large format tiles so the faces finish flush.

Which Perth suburbs do you service?

The full Perth metro area, from Yanchep and Butler in the north to Rockingham and Mandurah in the south, and east through Midland, Ellenbrook and the foothills. Travel is included in your quote for metro jobs.

Do you work for builders as well as homeowners?

Yes. We take on new build and renovation work for builders and project managers alongside direct residential jobs, and can work to a program with staged handovers.
